Skill and ability development –
Earning your food by your own efforts and hard work gives a lot of happiness, satisfaction and self-respect rather than procuring the same through donations of others. With the Goal to bring a neglected section of our society into the mainstream and to make them self-reliant, Shri Balasahebji Despande laid the foundation of Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram on 26th December 1952 at Jashpur in Madhya Pradesh. In the last 69 years, the dedicated workers of Kalyan Ashram have done remarkable work throughout the tribal areas of our country in creating self-reliance in various fields among our brothers living in these remote and inaccessible areas and have gone a long way in fulfilling the dream of our founders. In our various centres spread across the country, besides academic education, our tribal brethren are given technical education in various fields so that they may be able to raise their heads and live a life of self-respect in the society. Self help groups are created to further help in self-reliance. Training is provided in various cottage industries like Gobar Gas plant, agricultural growth, livestock breeding, sewing, knitting, procurement and processing of various food and other valuable forest products.
